FAQ

Answers to previous questions,

Qu. What age is it suitable for?
With regards to the suitability of the Bike Tutor for your child our advice is quite simple.
As parents you are the best possible judge of  their readiness. As  a rule of thumb if the child can sit upright and you can explain to them that  they hasve to hold on to the handle bars they will be OK. Please remember  that there is a 3 point seat belt and over the thigh strap for his  security so they will not fall off the seat. Secondly they will be  positioned between your arms for added protection. Thirdly take things  slowly. The  first ride together can be 5 or 10 mins. Again your his/her  parents and the best judge.

Qu. Will the Bike Tutor fit any bike?
Yes, the bike tutor will adjust to fit onto most adult size bicycles, curtain bikes with massively oversize frame tubes may need modification.

Qu. Will the Bike Tutor take the weight?
The bike tutor is engineer approved for 44 pounds, one of the most, heavy duty of all child carriers.

Qu. Can I let my child steer the bike while I pedal?
No, the adult must never let go of the handlebars. Children do not have sufficient strength to control a large bicycle with the weight of an adult on it.

Qu. Is there a backrest on Bike Tutor?

There are no backrests on bicycles and there is no backrest on a bike tutor. There is however, a three-point safety belt, which prevents the child from falling off the seat.

Qu. Do I need any special experience to use the Bike Tutor?
Adults that provide rides to children, "bike - tutors" should be experienced, competent cyclists, capable of avoiding hazards and plotting a safe route that is free form heavy traffic areas. Remember that the child is only as safe as the adult in control of the bicycle.

Qu. What if my child gets tired, can he take a nap while I ride?
Sorry no nap pad here, this is all about cycling together. Bike tutoring is fully interactive and demands alertness. That’s how it improves the child’s balance, control and self-confidence.

Qu. My bike has a Y frame. Will the Bike Tutor fit any bike?
The bike tutor really does fit any adult size bicycle. The frame assembly adjusts the seats pitch, height, extension and level, to make it comfortable for children to hold their hands on the all -important handlebars. Which are also fully adjustable, the handlebars adjust width and pivot for reach.

Qu. At what age should the child stop using the Bike Tutor?
It’s amazing how much, children learn after 10 or 20 rides. Often after a child has learned to ride, they still prefer to ride on their bike tutor seat rather than to ride their own bicycle. That’s how much fun it is for them. You can use your bike tutor for about four years with each child. It‘s the best exercise motivation money can buy.

Qu. How do you know if the Bike Tutor is teaching?
The adult is the first to notice when their child begins to lean with the turns of the bicycle and anticipate cornering before the corner. The child’s head does not move around, as when they first rode together. If fact the child’s entire body position becomes much more stable. That’s when they are prepared to try riding their own bike.

Don’t forget that although motion, steering and choosing the path has become second nature to the child there remains peddling and braking for them to learn. Teaching a child to safely ride a bicycle demands a lot of attention from adults and is not complete until about age 9 or 10.

Qu. Will the Bike Tutor interfere with my riding position?
Your peddling room depends on the size of your child and the size of your bicycle. The smaller the child and the larger the bike, the more room there is for your legs to peddle freely. The bike tutor seat is less than 4 inches wide and the foot - rests are adjustable for front and back positioning. It is very comfortable to ride fast and aggressive with a bike tutor seat, so adults must use caution at all times while bike tutoring.

In all our years of promoting bike tutoring, we have never heard a parent return from a ride with their child on a bike tutor and say, "it’s not for me". Every time they enjoy cycling together and experience the priceless conversations, they buy a bike tutor.

Qu. Will my child become bored of riding?
I could never say, "no bike ride today". My little guy caught onto riding his own bike at age three but we still rode together until he was six. When they ride up front and pilot, to them they’re giving you a ride. That’s when the ride becomes their treat and they offer it to you - it’s impossible, you can never say no.
